In the 1830s settlers began arriving in Iowa from Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Indiana, Kentucky, and Virginia. Iowa became a state in 1846.

J. Etta Layton Fields was born in October, 1862 and was the daughter of wagonmaker, John Layton and his wife Margaret. Etta was a teacher. She married James N. Fields. Etta died in 1946.

Susie Ellen Boylan Seddon married Ralph Seddon on March 26, 1914. Susie was born March 8, 1894 to Ira Oliver Boylan and Margaret A. Murphy. She died June 13, 1950.

Gertrude Hattie Boylan Auxier was born in October 1891 in Iowa. Her parents were Allen Boylan and Rosetta Ann Shore. Gertrude married Leon Leslie Auxier who was born December 6, 1879 in Illinois.

Martha Curtis Barger married Daniel N. Barger. She was born on November 2, 1870 and died June 15, 1945.

Nora May Williams McGinnis was born in December 1873. She was the daughter of Joseph Parkinson Williams and Sarah Jane Essex. She married Thomas Jefferson McGinnis on February 28, 1895. She died in October 1961.

Ethel Hendrickson Kopp married Walter C. Kopp on May 26, 1921.

Isaac E. Norris was born April 26, 1835. He married Margaret Mitchell.

Lucas County is in south central Iowa. It was founded in 1846 and the county seat is Chariton.
